Are You Concerned About the Marine Environment?

Are you concerned about the marine environment, our oceans and conservation of the underwater world? If so, there s a growing movement started by PADI’s Project AWARE (Aquatic World Awareness Responsibility and Education) that is a growing movement of divers and snorkelers who are working to protect the marine environment-one dive at a time. Project AWARE Logo

Two major issues have been at the forefront of Project AWARE’s efforts lately, that of protecting sharks and marine debris. Since we usually don’t have many sharks in our lakes and quarries in Wisconsin, we can certainly make a difference when it comes to marine debris and trash under water. One of the great things about being a certified diver is that we see the effects of trash underwater….either on a warm water trip or in our local lakes and quarries. Seeing trash is not one of the things for which we got certified. We want to see healthy reefs, clean water and abundant marine life, no matter the location.

You can join in the efforts to help the marine environment by signing up with Project AWARE on their website’s: Action Zone. Here you can find events in which to participate, track your own efforts to assist with marine debris removal, and recruit other divers to help in efforts to help the aquatic world.

So take a moment today to register for the Project AWARE Action Zone today, and let us know what you are doing…we’d love to post your efforts on our blog!

We’re going to be planning Project AWARE  events this coming spring and summer and will be asking for help in this important effort. Stay tuned to our blog and our website for details.
