Pearl Lake News
I just received a newsletter from Pear Lake, located near South Beloit, Illinois that had some interesting news. First of all, they have a new dive site, called “The Patrol Boat”….it is a fiberglass vessel that was used by the Coast Guard many years ago on Lake Michigan. It’s 30 feet long, with an 8 foot beam. The wheelhouse stands over 12 feet off the bottom. The wreck is located in about 25 feet of water halfway between the submarine and the Thora Ann. They are referring to this area as Pearls’ own “Wreck Alley”.
Also, they have announced that Saturday, April 23 will be the opening day for the 2011 dive season. Entry fee is still $20 per person.
And their website
We have some dates already planned for outings to Pearl, give us a call at the Delafield store for more details. 262-646-8283

Great to see that local wrecks are getting national attention and protection.
5 Area shipwrecks may get protected status
I saw an interesting article this morning in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about 5 area shipwrecks that may get protected status under the National Register of Historic Places.
From the article:
The archaeological surveys and documentation will be used to nominate the five wrecks to the National Register of Historic Places, which will give them additional legal protection. Buoys will be placed at each site so dive boats can safely moor without harming the shipwreck.
